Alice Clara (Chambers) Dunham, 93, of Battle Creek died peacefully on Tuesday, June 24, 2020 at Glenn Arbor Hospice Residence.
Alice was born June 23, 1927, the daughter of Joseph Frederick and Bernice C. (Piper) Chambers in Howlandsburg area of Ross Township, Michigan. She was a member of the Augusta High School graduating class of 1945. After Alice had raised her children, she was employed as a telephone operator, at Upjohn and Log Cabin Coffee Shop. She also worked in retail for Krum Photographic and Grants in the Urbandale Plaza.
Alice Clara Chambers and Henry Wesley Dunham were united in marriage at Fellowship United Methodist Church on July 23, 1948. Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Henry on January 13, 2007. Surviving are her children, Melissa (Gerald) Malott of Muskegon, Myron (Virginia Harper) Dunham of Battle Creek; grandchildren, Greta Alsteen, Erik Malott, Nicholas (Angela) Malott, Michelle (Matt) Aitkins, Michael (Ashley Bowens) Hughes; nine great-grandchildren; a niece and nephew and several cousins and all of their families. Alice was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Gloria Dunham Morter.
Alice was a member of Covenant Hope Church, and a former member of American Legion post #298. While her children were in school, Alice was active as a Campfire Leader, with Cub Scouts, an active PTA member at Level Park Elementary and Northwestern Junior High. She was a member and former treasurer for TOPS in Bedford. She enjoyed knitting, reading, crocheting, doing word puzzles, watching game shows, doing yardwork and working in her flower gardens. Alice will be remembered as a devoted and loving wife, mother and Grandmother.
A graveside service to celebrate Alice's life will be officiated by Pastor Joel Klingenberg at Bedford Cemetery 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 11, 2020. You are welcome to bring your own chair. Fellowship and food will be shared following the service at Spanky's Tavern and Ice Cream Parlor, 1414 West Michigan Avenue, Battle Creek, MI 49037.
Memorial contributions may be made to Alice's family to help with funeral expenses.
