Alvenia Smith

d. February 17, 2013

Alvenia (Moore) Smith, 88 of Battle Creek, passed peacefully into the arms of God Sunday, February 17, 2013, at The Oaks, NorthPointe Woods.
Born to Roy and Hazel (Hall) Pippin in Sparta, Missouri on July 12, 1924. She met her husband of 41 years, James Albert there and in 1950 they moved to Michigan. She worked as a matron for Battle Creek Public Schools (Verona) for 15 years retiring in 1968. She later worked part-time in the Lakeview General Hospital Dietary Dept. and the Enquirer and News. Together they raised three sons and a daughter. Alvenia thoroughly enjoyed the Marion Burch Center. In 2006 her health deteriorated and she went to live at The Oaks. We thank them dearly for the loving care given during her time there.
Husbands James Albert Moore and Orville C. Smith, daughter Sheron K. Throop, son Winfred Moore and brother Dwight Pippin preceded her in death. She is survived by sons Burnie (Jennifer) and Wilber (Tammy) Moore, ten grandchildren, many great-grandchildren. Her Missouri family includes brother Dewayne Pippin and sister Juanita Hicks, several nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held at 10:00 am, one hour prior to the funeral service at 11:00, to celebrate Alvenia life, Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home. With Rev. Pat Weather wax officiating. Interment will be at Beckley Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Marion Burch Center.
