Alvin Lyle Skinner of Kalamazoo, MI
Lyle, age 94, died on Thursday evening, April 16, 2020 at Rose Arbor Hospice Residence, Kalamazoo.
Lyle, the son of Valdine G. Nutting, was born in Three Oaks, MI on March 29, 1926. He left school in the 9th grade to enlist in the United States Navy and served his Country honorable and nobly during World War II as a Seaman First Class in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater aboard the USS Tennessee. Lyle was a machinist by trade; employed for 16 years with the Kalamazoo Paper Mill, and then retiring from Eaton Manufacturing Company, after 17 years of faithful service. In retirement, he enjoyed fishing, a passion for playing poker at the casino, and traveling in his homes on wheels.
Lyle raised five children, and has eight grandchildren, and fifteen great grandchildren. His mother, a wife, Irene, a daughter, and a brother, preceded him in death.
The Graveside Service to celebrate Lyle's life will be held on Wednesday, July 15th at 1:00 p.m. at Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, MI, with the United States Navy Honor Guard and the Fort Custer Honor Guard bestowing full military honors. Any memorial contributions in Lyle's honor may be directed to Hospice of SW Michigan. The Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Augusta Chapel (269-731-4212) is assisting Lyle's family.
