Barbara J. Phillips

Barbara J. Phillips, 71, of Battle Creek passed away unexpectedly March 18, 2024 at Bronson Hospital, Kalamazoo.

Barb was born September 24, 1952, the daughter of Al and Jean Rasmussen in Battle Creek. Barb was a 1970 Pennfield graduate and attended KCC for accounting. She started her career at Pete Dowd Accounting and Bauman Accounting, before becoming the Treasurer of Pennfield Township for 20 years until retiring in 2016.

Barb married Mark L. Phillips June 3, 1972. Surviving are her husband, Mark; children, Loree Phillips and Brian Phillips; grandsons, Logan Phillips and Christian Calkins; sisters, LeeAnn Boyer, Patricia Rasmussen and Deborah Wesner. She was preceded in death by her parents, Al and Jean Rasmussen and her brother, David Rasmussen.

Barb and Mark regularly attended Woodland Church and also enjoyed traveling together to many car shows in her ’67 Camaro. She crocheted anything and everything she could for multiple organizations, including making sleeping mats for The Haven to hand out. She enjoyed fishing with her kids and grandkids. She always looked forward to Friday movie day with her dear friend, Karen Kooi, as well as going to cardio drumming several days a week with her second family that she loved and made at Nutrition Penn.

Barb’s family will receive friends for visitation Monday, March 25 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home. A service to celebrate Barb’s life will take place there on Tuesday, March 26 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (https://www.alz.org).
