Benton Joseph "Ben" Halder

Benton Joseph "Ben" Halder, age 64, of Battle Creek sadly passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday morning, February 13, 2018. Ben was born in Battle Creek on February 26, 1953, the son of Joseph F. and Beverly E. (Clark) Halder. He proudly and faithfully served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps from 1970 to 1973. Ben worked as an owner/operator and truck driver for many years, currently serving with Pitt-Ohio for more than thirteen years.

Ben married the "Love of His Life", Elizabeth J. "Betty" Meredith in Battle Creek on June 10, 1990; she survives. He is also survived by his mother, Beverly of Battle Creek, Michigan; his children, Dawn (David) Daller of Florida, Crystal (Ryan) Reynolds of Indiana, Nichole (Miguel) Lopez of North Carolina, and Sarah (Joey) Craig of Battle Creek; his grandchildren, Cody, Megan, Taylor, Mark, Bailey, Ryleigh, and Meredith; his brothers, David and Tim (Pat) Halder; his sister, Trish (Jessie) Galindo, and several nieces & nephews. Ben was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Halder.

Ben truly loved spending time with his family and friends, but most of all he loved just being with his wife. A member of the American Legion Post #298, he was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan, and also enjoyed camping, motorcycles, building "Bonfires", shooting 3-Ball, being out on his pontoon, watching NASCAR and listening to the Oldies & Classic Rock.

A memorial service with full military honors to celebrate Ben's life will be held 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 22, 2018 at the Fort Custer National Cemetery. Family and friends will continue the celebration of Ben's life at the American Legion Post # 298, 228 N. 20th Street, Battle Creek.
