Charles David "Charlie" Schaap of Richland, MI

Charlie, age 66, died Monday morning, October 29, 2018 at Borgess Medical Center, Kalamazoo, MI following a lengthy and courageous battle with Leukemia.

Charlie, the son of John W. and Arlene G. (Deur) Schaap, was born in Holland, MI on May 15, 1952; He graduated from Holland High School in 1970 and received his Bachelor of Architectural Design from Ferris State University. He was an Architect for over 30 years specializing in Home Design in the Holland and Kalamazoo area. Charlie worked in sales at Galesburg Ford for the past several years. Charlie and his wife, Bonnie were regular attendees of Radiant Church of Richland. Charlie was an avid golfer and bowler. He participated in many leagues throughout the years. Charlie enjoyed the beach and being around the water.

Charlie was united in marriage to Bonnie R. (Dopp) Davis in Block Island, RI on August 29, 2006 who survives him. He is also survived by his two sons, Matthew and Bryan Schaap, both of Holland; three step daughters, Sherry (Don) Cheyne of Athens, MI, Michelle (Robert) Sweet of Warwick, RI and Tammy (Pando) Yosifovski of Caledonia, MI; six grandchildren; his sister, Jane Boeve of Holland, a brother, Robert (Rosemary) Schaap of Ephrata, PA and his many nieces and nephews, whom he adored. Charlie was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Tim Schaap.

The Memorial Service to celebrate Charlie's life will be held on Friday, November 2nd at 3:00 p.m. in the Radiant Church, 8157 East DE Avenue, Richland, MI 49083. Charlie's family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the Church on Friday and after the service when light refreshments will be served. Private interment will be held in Oakridge Cemetery, Marshall, MI. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Charlie's honor may be directed to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Grand Rapids Branch, 4065 Saladin Drive, SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546 or to the Radiant Church (see address above).
