Clara Louise “Didge” Scherer of Battle Creek, MI went to be with her Lord and Savior on February 25, 2025 in Kalamazoo, MI at the age of 80 surrounded by her family. Born in Battle Creek, MI August 13, 1944 to Clara Wittrock (Doyle) and John Wittrock.
Didge is survived by her three wonderful children, Roger “Adrian” Scherer, Clara (Thomas) Reed and Cathy (Ryan) Aldrich; her cherished grandchildren, Clara (Brady) Nimmo, Courtney (Joel) Schwiebert, Cameron (Raeann) Aldrich, Caleb (Ellie) Aldrich, Caitlin (Trevor) Reed-Woods, Connor (Macenzie) Aldrich, Cullen (Makayla) Reed, Gavin Scherer and Easton Scherer; her treasured great- grandchildren, Adalyn Aldrich, Ainsley Aldrich, Leilah Aldrich, Clara "June" Nimmo, Avery Aldrich, Turner Woods, Millie Aldrich and expected soon, Lillian Nimmo. She was preceded in death by her mother; her grandparents; her in-laws; her uncle, Brian “Buzz” Doyle who was like a brother to her and several other loved ones.
Didge graduated from Lakeview high school in 1962 and then continued her education at Kellogg Community College. She retired from State Farm Regional Office in Marshall, MI.
Didge had a strong faith in God and was known by her friends and family as a prayer warrior. Throughout her life with her words and deeds she represented Christ Jesus. She loved fiercely and unconditionally. Didge grew up in Trinity United Methodist Church and the last 25 years was a member of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church.
Didge was also involved in the Chapel Hill stained glass class, Miriam Circle bible study, and Sunday single ladies. After retiring, she attended State Farm luncheons, Class of 1962 luncheons, and spent time volunteering in the community. Didge met monthly with a group of devoted friends known as the Potluck Queens for the last 50 years.
Didge enjoyed flowers, fishing, game nights with the family, bonfires, golf, traveling out east, supporting her grandchildren in all of their endeavors and spending time with loved ones.
Didge was a devoted mother, grandmother and a dear friend. Heaven gained a beautiful angel.
The family will receive friends 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, March 6, 2025 at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Battle Creek. A Celebration of her life will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 7, 2025 at the Chapel Hill United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
