Our beloved mother and grandmother, Claudia Ileana (Covcll) Myers, 94, of Colorado Springs, CO, formerly of Battle Creek, MI, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 16, 2013.
She was born on March 3, 1919, in Two Harbors, MN. She resided at the Two Harbors Lighthouse and Split Rock Lighthouse-north shore, MN with her parents Franklin J. and Edith A. (Fitch) Covell. Her father was the last light keeper of Split Rock Lighthouse, before the Coast Guard took over. She donated several articles of historical/documental value to the Split Rock Lighthouse Museum.
She attended the Beaver Bay Schools and graduated from Two Harbors High School in 1939.
On December 13, 1941 Claudia Ileana Covell married Otto George Myers in Duluth, Minnesota.
After her husband return from WWII, they resided in Lake Superior, WI; before moving to Battle Creek, MI in 1947; where she busied herself with being a wife and mother, until their children were adults.
She worked for the Battle Creek Equipment Company from 1974-1984, when they retired and moved to Lakeland, FL.
She moved to Colorado Springs, CO, after the death of her husband in 2003.
She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene since 1970, and presently holds that membership at the Highland Church of the Nazarene in Lakeland, Fl. She was a member of the former West Michigan Avenue Church of the Nazarene (Hope Church) in Battle Creek, where she serviced as a Board Member, church secretary, Missionary President, Sunday school teacher. She was awarded the Distinguished Service Award for 15 years of continues service. She was also LINKS Missionary secretary at the Highland Church of the Nazarene from 1987-1997, before she retired to take care of her aligning husband.
She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, doing jigsaw puzzles, and visiting land marks.
She devoted her life in the service of the Lord by being a caregiver to anyone in need, as a daughter, wife, mother, or friend. Her love and care will be greatly missed.
She is survived by sons, Stanley J. Myers-Kalamazoo,MI; Kenneth G. (Kathleen) Myers-Wayland, MI; a daughter, Claudia I.(Rodolfo) Lopez, Colorado Springs, CO; eleven grandchildren; twenty great¬grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Otto G. Myers 2003; a son, William D. Myers 1978, parents, and several brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be Wednesday, May 22, 2013 from 1-3 p.m. at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home. Immediately following will be a graveside service at Memorial Park Cemetery at 3:15 p.m., officiated by the Rev. Robert G. Muirhead.
