Clyde "John" Logan

Clyde "John" Logan, age 89, of Battle Creek died just minutes short of his 90th birthday on Monday evening, October 12, 2020. He was born in Grover Hill, Ohio on October 13, 1930, the son of Clyde and Anna Hazel (Blackmore) Logan. John grew up in Emmett Township and attended the old one-room Redbrick School House, was a 1949 graduate of Marshall High School and attended Western Michigan University for two years. He served with both the U.S Navy and U.S. Army, serving in the Occupation of Germany. John was employed at the Kellogg Company as an industrial painter, retiring in 1989 after 32 years. Prior to that, he was employed at Eaton Manufacturing in Battle Creek.

John married the former Mary Medich on January 31, 1959 at the Lakeview Baptist Church in Battle Creek; she sadly preceded him in death on July 13, 2020 after more than 61 years of marriage. He is survived by his children, Sherri (Steve) Madill of Delton, John Logan of Battle Creek, Lauri (Bill) Field of Lafayette, IN; a daughter-in-law, Julie Logan; eight grandchildren; a brother, Richard (Natala) Logan of Battle Creek and two sisters, Betty (Mike) Dawson of Battle Creek and Clara Lang of Muskegon. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Kathryn VandenHeede; and his brother Robert Logan.

John attended Battle Creek Friends Church and was formerly an active member of First United Methodist Church and its former United Methodist Men's Club. He was also a member of the Kellogg 25 Year Club, Burnham Brook, the Institute for Learning in Retirement, Senior Tour Club and A.A.R.P. John volunteered at church and at the Red Cross Coffee Shop at Battle Creek Veterans Affairs Medical Center. He played fast pitch softball for over 30 years and pitched for Kellogg's and Mullett Motors, and was a part of many State Championship teams. John was involved in the beginning of the Wattles Park Men's Club Youth Baseball with his brother Richard and coached his Son John's team for many years. He loved his International Tractor "Big Red" and enjoyed gardening, fishing and especially following his grandchildren's sporting events and activities.

Due to recent regulations (less than 40 people) a private memorial service with full military honors for John will be held 10:30 a.m., Friday, October 23rd.
