Crystal Irene (Thompson) Wood, 73, a lifelong Battle Creek resident, died peacefully with her family at her side on Monday, April 3, 2017, at Rose Arbor Hospice Residence in Kalamazoo.
She was born March 1, 1944 in Battle Creek, Michigan to Elmer L. and Dallas Mary (Ellis) Whitmore Thompson. Crystal graduated from Battle Creek Central High School. She was a dedicated, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She loved bowling and coached the Junior Leagues for 31 years at M-66 Bowl and Nottke's Bowling Alley. She also coached and umpired the Post / Franklin Little League Baseball for 20 years. Crystal was a member of the Polish National Alliance and the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Battle Creek.
Crystal married Loyal Duane Wood on January 20, 1963 in Battle Creek at the Church of God of Prophecy. Surviving are her loving husband, Loyal "Woody"; daughter, Jacqueline Wells of Battle Creek, three sons, Jackson (Tracy Jones) Wood of Augusta, Johnny (Kathy) Wood of Marietta, Ohio, Thomas (Sarah) Wood of Battle Creek; grandchildren, Nichelle, Jenelle, Aryanna, Kayla and Alyssa; great-grandchildren, Skylar and Destiny; and two sisters, Maxine (Ray) Simmons of Florida and Donna Campbell of Battle Creek. Sadly Crystal was preceded in death by a grandson, Johnny Allen "Jay" Wood II; sister, Margaret Reeves and a brother, James Whitmore.
Friends will be received 5:00 â 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care; where funeral services will be officiated by Rev. Patricia J. Weatherwax 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 7, 2017. Committal and interment will follow at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
