Daniel Allen Simons and Alicia Mazzei Simons, husband and wife, passed away a day apart this past weekend, November 10 and November 11, 2023.
Daniel Allen Simons was born on October 13, 1955, the son of the late Joe Allen and Nila Ray Evans Simons. He grew up in Flemingsburg, Kentucky, and was a graduate of Fleming County High School class of 1974, where he was a very active student athlete participating in several sports. He was a 1978 graduate of Transylvania University where he played basketball and golf for the Transy Pioneers. He earned his Juris Doctorate from The University of Kentucky College of Law and practiced law in Richmond, Kentucky, with the firm Simons & Fore PSC. He was a member of The Kentucky Bar Association and was a member and past president of the Madison County Bar Association. Daniel was a faithful member of St. Mark Catholic Church.
Daniel is survived by his siblings Sharon Mitchell (Steve); Michael Simons (Laura) and Tammy Jackson (Morris); his nieces and nephews: Joseph and Sydney Jackson, Savanna, Lauren, Sean and Mary Simons; Eric Mitchell (Jolena), Patrick Mitchell (Stephanie) and Justin Mitchell (Kelly); great-nieces and nephews: Rachelle, Taylor and Preston Mitchell and his uncle and aunt: Charles and Darlene Simons.
Alicia Mazzei Simons was born on September 11, 1948, in Battle Creek, Michigan, the daughter of the late Harold and Elsie Martin Mazzei. She was a 1966 graduate of Springfield High School in Battle Creek, Michigan. Alicia enjoyed traveling and spending time with friends. She lived for a period of time in California, before settling in Richmond, Kentucky, where she met and married Daniel Simons, who was always by her side. She was a former employee of Harper and Associates Realty.
Alicia is survived by a sister: Carol Belson of Indiana and a brother: David Mazzei (Kristine) of Waterford, Michigan, two nieces and six nephews.
A joint Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at St. Mark Roman Catholic Church, 608 West Main Street with Fr. Tom Farrell officiating. The Committal Service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday afternoon at St. Patrick Cemetery in Maysville, Kentucky, with Fr. Phillip DeVous officiating.
Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday evening at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home, 328 West Main Street.
Donations in memory of Daniel & Alicia are suggested towards: animal welfare, Alzheimer’s research, or the charity of one’s choice.
