Daniel Louis "Dan" Wolney

Daniel Louis "Dan" Wolney, 73 of Battle Creek, Michigan died peacefully at home on Sunday, September 20, 2020.

Dan was born December 31, 1946 in Battle Creek the son of Raymond Joseph and Dorothy Eva (Mezak) Wolney. He attended St. Joseph Elementary and was a 1965 graduate of Lakeview High School. Dan was drafted in 1967 and honorably served his country in the U.S. Army in Korea. He was employed at Michigan Carton Company for nine years. Dan was employed at the Battle Creek Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Dietetic Food Services from 1975 until retiring April 2, 2004.

Daniel Louis Wolney and Mary Margaret Moran were united in marriage on July 6, 1974 at St. Philip Roman Catholic Church. Surviving are his wife, Mary; children, Christopher Joseph Wolney of Potomac Falls, VA, Kathleen "Katie" Plummer of Sherman, TX, Kelly (Rodger) LaPorte of Battle Creek; grandchildren, Lindsay Plummer, Gavrijela "Gavy" Plummer, Jaydon Plummer, Joleana LaPorte, Amber LaPorte; numerous step-grandchildren and their families; and his siblings Ronald Wolney of Battle Creek, Linda Federico, West Palm Beach, FL, Sharon Wolney of Battle Creek, Judi Wolney of Detroit, Raymond Wolney of Battle Creek. Dan was preceded in death by his parents; siblings Patricia, Jeanette, Joanne, Mary Anne, Joseph and Casey.

Dan was a member of St. Philip Roman Catholic Church and VFW 565. He was a former member of the St. Joseph Knights of Columbus and worked on SuperFest for years. His favorite pastimes were weight-lifting, writing sci-fi, western and super hero stories and solving word search puzzles. Dan also served as an Assistant Boy Scout Master to Chuck Swain in his Troop in Urbandale. He loved camping for the week at the Calhoun County Fair and watching his grandchildren compete in 4-H competition, the Mini Winnie 4-H Club, and as they competed on the Pennfield Equestrian Team. He loved animals, especially his dogs and rabbits, and walking with them for hours. His vegetable garden provided prize winning vegetables at the county fair. Dan will be remembered as an unconditionally loving and nurturing father, grandfather, brother, friend, extended family member and animal caregiver, who had a positive energy that he impressed upon anyone he knew.

Friends will be received 2:00-4:00 p.m. & 6:00– 8:00 p.m. Sunday, September 27, 2020 at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, where the Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Sunday. Funeral services will be officiated by Fr. Raj J. Nathan 12:00 noon Monday, September 28, 2020 at the funeral home. Military honors and interment will follow at Fort Custer National Cemetery.
