Diane Margaret Wood, age 76, passed away on August 9, 2020 to be with her Lord and Savior in Heaven. Born in 1944, the daughter of Marion and Vernon Benfield, Diane lived in the Battle Creek area throughout her years. She attended Lakeview High School before meeting the love of her life, Thurman Leon Wood, at the Midway skating rink. They began their journey of marital bliss on August 25, 1961. A devoted wife and mother of two daughters, Diane had a way of making her family feel cherished and loved.
She enjoyed arts and crafts, crocheting, and cooking delicious meals, especially fried chicken. She also took delight in trips to Mackinac, balloon festivals, and dinner dates with friends and loved ones. Her face would light up the room at the sight of her grandchildren, and she spent many hours watching "The Waltons" with Margaret.
She is rejoicing today at the glorious reunion with her parents, husband, and daughter Teresa who proceeded her in this final change of address. While this angelic scene brings those of us left behind much comfort, Diane will be greatly missed. She is survived by a sister Nancy (Woody) Douglas, a brother Philip (Karen) Benfield, daughter Melanie (Ed) Zentera, son-in-law Michael Byers, five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and many beloved aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A graveside service to celebrate Diane's life will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 12, 2020 at Hicks Cemetery, officiated by Rev. James L. Sparks. Due to Covid-19, the family requests all family and friends to abide by social distancing guidelines and wearing a mask while attending the service. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial donations to Oaklawn Hospital. Arrangements by the Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care.
