Dolores Anna Umbreit was born November 23, 1932 in Kinde, MI to Stanley and Agnes Inda. She was the oldest of 11 siblings. She married Gordon Umbreit at the ripe old age of 19 on May 10, 1952. They enjoyed 72 years of marriage, living in St Clair Shores, Mi for over 60 years.
She was devoted wife, mother and Catholic; a great cook (her potato salad was the best!) and homemaker. She took great pride in each of these roles. Each carries so much more weight than the word wife or mother can convey. She never wavered in her dedication to any of them. She also enjoyed going for Sunday drives and walks at Metro Park throughout the St. Clair Shores years.
In January 2024, Dolores and Gordon moved to Battle Creek, MI to be closer to family. She finally "retired" from homemaking and began to enjoy a new life of new friends, noodle volleyball and bingo at Lakeview Assisted Living.
In 1964, they adopted their only daughter, Diane. Diane could not have asked for a better mother and considers her a gift from God. Diane and her husband, James Phillips, gave her three grandchildren whom she adored; Sarah Laws (Craig), Emily Corby (Trent) and Samuel Phillips.
Dolores always put everyone else before herself. She lived a life of sacrifice. One of her last wishes was to see her great-grandson Benjamin Laws reach 2, but it wasn't meant to be. She had the will but her body was just too tired. She lived a long, blessed life filled with many obstacles; she fought colon cancer and won, bacterial meningitis, and couldn't have children of her own, just to name a few. None of these stopped her, she was a fighter. Despite the obstacles and hardships, her life was also filled with great joy from faith, family and friends. She will be missed beyond measure.
