Don Evan Burrill, age 84, of Battle Creek passed away peacefully on Thursday afternoon, June 8, 2023.
Don was born in Battle Creek on July 20, 1938, the loving son of Leland and Elva (VanBlaricom) Burrill and graduated from Battle Creek Central High School with the Class of 1957. He faithfully served his country as a member of the United States Navy and retired from the City of Battle Creek in 2001 after more than 16 years.
Don married his loving wife, Judy in Battle Creek on November 17, 1962; she sadly preceded him in death on April 12, 2006. He was also preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Sanford “Bud” Burrill. Don is survived by his children, Tim Burrill, Michelle Ryder, and Nicole (Troy) Place, all of Battle Creek; two grandchildren, Amara and Colton Place; a sister, Nona Spangler; two brothers, Dorn (Cindy) and Dean (Beverly) Burrill; and several nieces & nephews.
Don was an active member of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church and volunteered with the Lakeview Food Pantry and the Salvation Army Soup Kitchen. He was a 57-year member of the Barbershop Harmony Society and the Battle Creek Chapter of the SPEBSQSA. He truly enjoyed singing and music, golfing, bowling and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
The family will receive friends 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 13th at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, 157 Chapel Hill Drive, Battle Creek, MI 49015 where services to celebrate Don's life will begin at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday. Interment with full military honors will follow at Fort Custer National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials directed to the Chapel Hill United Methodist Church or the Lakeview Food Pantry, would be appreciated.
