Donald Bremer, 82, of Battle Creek died at his residence on Thursday, September 5, 2013, surrounded by his family.
Don was born April 11, 1931 in Grand Rapids, MI to Henry and Cora (LeFleur) Bremer. He moved to the Battle Creek area with his family in 1939. Don was a 1949 graduate of Battle Creek Central High School, attended U of M briefly and then served with the United States Army in the Korean War and was discharged as a Sergeant. Don was employed as a carpenter in the area most of his life.
Don married Jean L. Kovach in Battle Creek on June 26, 1954. Surviving are his wife, Jean; son, Michael (Kathleen) Bremer of Grand Rapids; daughters, Barbara (Brian) Kole of Southlake, TX, Anne Denney of Battle Creek, Connie (Vinnie) Vandenbosch of San Jose, CA, Beth (Patrick) Harrington of Armour, SD, Paula Bremer of Gonzales, LA, 9 grandchildren, 1 great-granddaughter; sisters, Evelyn VanDongen and Carol (George) Smith all of Battle Creek; sister-in-law, Sophie Bremer and brother-in-law, Calvin Meekhof. Don was preceded in death by a sister, Bernice Meekhof, brother, Marvin Bremer and brother-in-law, Bruce VanDongen.
Don was a member of Union Church of Battle Creek (formerly Battle Creek Christian Reformed Church) where he served as an Elder, Deacon, Treasurer and President of the Council. He was a missionary to Nigeria for nine years, 1970-79. He enjoyed woodworking, traveling, model railroading and gardening.
Friends will be received at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home 6:00 â 8:00 p.m. Sunday.
Funeral services will be held at the funeral home 1:00 p.m. Monday, September 9, 2013. Military honors and interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
