Donna E. Cleveland, 92, of Battle Creek, Michigan, died peacefully at Northpointe Woods on Friday, April 19, 2013. Donna was born in Battle Creek on August 24, 1920 to Clarence and Mary (Crandal) Sherman.
She was a 1938 graduate of Battle Creek Central High School. Donna received her bachelor's degree in teaching from Western Michigan University in 1942. She taught for a year in Escanaba, MI and a year in Galesburg, MI. She worked briefly for the Kellogg Company and served for many years as a substitute teacher with the Harper Creek School District.
Donna married Richard H Cleveland on July 25, 1944. They retired to Sebring, FL in September, 1980. She returned to Battle Creek in March 2011.
Donna was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority in Battle Creek and a member of Atonement Lutheran Church in Sebring, FL. She loved gardening and she always had a beautiful rose garden. Donna was an avid golfer and she had been a member at Alwyn Downs Golf Course and Marshall Country Club. She enjoyed reading, and playing cards and most of all, spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Richard, on June 12, 2002. Donna is survived by her two sons, David (Kathey) Cleveland, Oscoda, MI and James (Susan) Cleveland, Battle Creek, MI; two grandchildren, Christopher (Catherine) Cleveland, East Lansing and Michelle (Jorge) Gonzalez, Ft. Lauderdale, FL; and three great-granddaughters, Madeline, Justine and Danielle Cleveland. Donna is also survived by her sister Zelma Jeanne Whitney of Jensen Beach, FL.
A memorial visitation will be held 12:00 pm â 1:00 pm, Saturday, April 27, 2013 at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home where services to celebrate Donna's life will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday. Interment will be held privately at the Fort Custer National Cemetery. Memorials directed to the charity of one's choice would be appreciated.
