Dorothy J. Banks

Dorothy June Banks, age 88, of Battle Creek passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, November 1, 2014. She was born in Decatur, Michigan on June 13, 1926, the loving daughter of Alfred and Rose (Ball) Myers. Prior to meeting her husband, Donald, Dorothy had been employed at State Farm in Marshall and United Steel & Wire. Along with her family and husband, Dorothy owned & operated Midway Roller Rink in Battle Creek and the Ideal Roller Rink in Plainwell for more than 40 years.

Dorothy married the "Love of Her Life", Donald D. Banks in Battle Creek on June 27, 1948; he sadly preceded her in death on February 18, 1991. She is survived by her sons, William R. "Will" (Conny) Banks and Douglas V. "Doug" (Jodi) Banks; her daughter, Chari R. Toll; six grandchildren, Carly, Brody, Whitney, Madison, Nick and Michelle; four great-grandchildren, Reid, Raegan, Alice and Eloise; her brother, Clifford (Rachel) Myers and a sister-in-law, Donna Myers. Dorothy was also preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and two sisters.

Dorothy enjoyed cooking and word searches. A loving and nurturing woman, Dorothy loved spending time with her family and taking care of her children and grandchildren.

The family will receive friends 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, November 7, 2014 at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home, Battle Creek where funeral services to celebrate Dorothy's life will be held 1:00 p.m., Saturday, November 8, 2014. Interment will follow at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider making donations to the Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice Residence.
