Dorothy (Canfield) Hendershot-Latimer

Dorothy E. (Canfield) Hendershot-Latimer, age 86, of Battle Creek went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday afternoon, June 20, 2013. She was born in Sturgis, Michigan on July 7, 1926, the loving daughter of Robert and Mildred (Ely) Canfield. Dorothy retired in 1986 after more than 36 years of faithful service as an Accounting Supervisor at Consumers Power.

Dorothy married Arnold W. Hendershot; he sadly preceded her in death on May 12, 1987. She then married Earl L. Latimer; he sadly preceded her in death on December 14, 2008. Dorothy is survived by her children, Karen (Dwight) Johnston of Grand Rapids and Michael (Linda) Hendershot of Missouri; her grandchildren, Todd (Brooke) Johnston of Grand Rapids, Tedd (Kristin) Johnston of Texas, Tara (Jason) Byrd of Grand Rapids, Aaron (Lindsey) Hendershot of Missouri and Jacob Hendershot of Missouri; 9 great-grandchildren; her brothers, Calvin (Gerry) Canfield and Stanley Canfield; her step-children, Linda (Charles) Brewer, Brenda (Dr. Ben) Hahn, Tina Webster, Deena (Max) Olds, Earl (Vickey) Latimer Jr., Ronald Latimer, and several step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Rev. Kenneth Canfield and a sister, Bonnie Mays.

Dorothy was a dedicated member of the First Assembly of God Church, Battle Creek where she served as a Sunday school teacher for more than 25 years. She enjoyed traveling, wintering and playing golf in Florida, but truly loved spending time with her friends and family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Family will receive friends 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Saturday, July 6, 2013 at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home where funeral services to celebrate Dorothy's life will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday.
