Dorothy June (Marble) Reynolds of Delton, MI, formerly of Vicksburg, MI
In 1934 a lovely baby girl was bom to Harry Earl and Jennie Leona (Shugars) Marble. Her name, Dorothy June. She had an older sister Arlene (Marble) Rabb and later two brothers, Norman and Larry Marble. Dorothy enjoyed the family tradition of spending time each summer with her family at a cabin near St. Ignace. As a teenager, she met the love of her life, Joseph Lamoine Reynolds, a handsome athlete from Portage Central High School, A few short weeks after graduating from Comstock High School in 1953, Dorothy and Joe were married in a wedding gown hand sewn by her mother. Dorothy began a wonderful journey. In August of 1954, the first of six children was born, Joseph Douglas (Joy) Reynolds of Climax, MI. A son, Tim M. was born in April of 1955, who sadly only lived a few weeks. Four more blessings followed, Todd Jeffrey Reynolds of Plainwell, MI, Diana Lee (Craig) O'Dell of San Antonio, TX, Jennifer Lynn (Rick) Holmes of Vicksburg, MI and Sean Thomas Reynolds of Vicksburg, MI. Dorothy so loved the tradition of vacationing in St. lgnace, the family went camping not only "up north" but all over the country with five kids in a station wagon and pop-up camper. Many unforgettable memories were made that are cherished to this day.
Dorothy over the years attended softball, baseball, basketball and lacrosse games, cross country, track and wrestling matches, cheerleading competitions and band and dance recitals to watch her children and grandchildren.
Dorothy and her husband, Joe were long time residents of Vicksburg. During the Vicksburg years, Dorothy raised a family, ran the household, held down various secretarial positions including Vicksburg United Methodist Church and still had a hot meal ready every night. During the 1970's and 80's, Dorothy ran a successful business called Do-Rey Ceramics out of her home, so she could still be right at home for her family.
After retirement, Dorothy and Joe built a home on Shelp Lake in Delton, where they still reside. Wintering in Naples, FL, Dorothy became President of the Moorhead Manor Association, as well as the social planner for all the holiday celebrations, dinners, dances, anniversaries and birthdays. Her cooking and baking skills made her the queen of the Naples crew. Dorothy always put on the most memorable celebrations. Her Christmas Day gatherings were the most special. No detail was missed. A birthday dinner was always prepared for every child and grandchild, every year. Her generosity has amassed an incomprehensible number of friends and confidants,
In February 2012, Dorothy was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Her faith in God and her inner strength were her weapons. For the first 9 months of her treatments, she still walked daily, attended social events and sporting events of her grandchildren. On Thursday, June 27th , Dorothy and Joe celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary. Two days before her passing, Dorothy attended her granddaughter's softball game. She is a constant reminder of how faith and passion for life can make even the toughest of battles, bearable. On July 3rd with loved ones by her side her earthly journey ended and new one begun. Her suffering lifted and she is free.
Dorothy is survived by her husband, Joe; five children; eleven grandkids; six great grandkids and three siblings.
