Edwin Ed Menz

Edwin R. "Ed" Menz, 91, a lifelong Battle Creek resident died, with his family at his side, at The Oaks at NorthPointe Woods on Thursday, February 21, 2013.
He was born October 10, 1921 in Battle Creek to Charles and Valeria Menz. Ed was a 1940 graduate of Battle Creek High School. He attended the University of Michigan leaving in 1943 for the European Theatre with the U.S. Army. Ed was discharged as a Captain in 1946. After serving his country he returned to the U of M and graduated with honors as a mechanical engineer. Ed spent his entire working life employed by the Kellogg Company, in the plant engineering department, retiring in 1979. He was a member of the 25 Year Club.
Edwin R. Menz was united in marriage to Eleanor Heystek by the Rev. Carlton Brooks Miller on June 5, 1948. Surviving are Eleanor his wife; a son, Richard Charles (Karen) Menz of Boise, ID; three grandchildren, Sara Menz of Los Angeles, CA, Ellen (Zev) Kronenberg of Salt Lake City, UT, and Evan (Jessica) Menz of Kalamazoo; a cousin, Betty Murphy; two nieces, Virginia Clark and Martha Menz; and a daughter-in-law, Lynda Menz-Latshaw. He was preceded in death by a son, Robert Edwin Menz.
Ed was a member of the First Congregational Church, joining with his parents in 1935. For many years he was a part of a church group that met for lunch and golf.
He enjoyed taking his family on summer car trips around the country and later on he and his wife traveled to Europe and Alaska. But most of all Ed loved spending time with friends and family, playing golf and working in his yard.
A memorial service will be held for Edwin and Eleanor on Saturday, May 11, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Congregational Church, Miller Chapel. Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
