Emily Joanne Shouldice
October 18, 1929 — May 29, 2021
Emily JoAnne Shouldice, age 91, passed away peacefully and joined her Dear husband, Fred, on Saturday, May 29, 2021. JoAnne was born October 18, 1929, in Battle Creek, MI, to Rutherford and Valenta Bryant. She grew up and spent her entire life in Battle Creek graduating in 1948 from Battle Creek Central High School. She worked in the Battle Creek Public Schools, the Calhoun County Vocational Center and the W.K. Kellogg Foundation before retiring.
JoAnne was previously married to Charles Boston. On July 21, 1984, she married Frederick (Fred) J. Shouldice. Together for almost 37 years, JoAnne and Fred were inseparable as they travelled, spent winters at their Florida home and enjoyed their blended families.
JoAnne's passion was music. She loved playing the piano (which she learned to play at 14 years of age) and the organ both in and out of church. She was a master gardener who could be found tending to flowers whenever an opportunity presented itself. She also enjoyed knitting, sewing, golf and volunteer work (especially enjoying working with elementary aged children).
JoAnne spent most of her life active in the church. She was a fifty-year member of Christ United Methodist Church and later joined the First Congregational Church with Fred.
In addition to her husband who preceded her in death by a month, she will be welcomed into heaven by her parents and her older sister, Barbara Crockett. JoAnne is survived by her daughters, Kathy (Boston) Filippelli of Florida, and Kristi (Boston) Miller of Battle Creek; her younger sister, Marilyn Brill of Kalamazoo; and step-children, Linda (Michael) Walters of Augusta, Virginia (Michael) Rogers, Frederick J. Shouldice, Jr., Thomas J. (Donna) Shouldice and Clifford House of Florida. Also surviving are many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

A private family service has been held. Arrangements by Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Battle Creek. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the South Michigan Food Bank 5451 Wayne Rd, Battle Creek, MI 49037.
