Emily Jean Woodman, age 75, passed away on February 23, 2021 at the Calhoun County Medical Care Facility in Battle Creek, Michigan. She was born on July 21, 1945 to Ray and Ila Mae (Philips) Woodman. Emily was a lifelong resident of the Battle Creek area and graduated from Springfield High School in 1964.
As an adult, Emily sought assistance from the Literary Council of Calhoun County to overcome her struggle with dyslexia. She eventually joined the Council and earned several awards for her work as a student tutor, helping others with the same learning disability. In 1996, she was a guest presenter at the State Literary Conference in Mount Pleasant.
Emily loved animals, cooking, cross stitch, and crafting. She organized a Christmas party for children at her former residence, Knollwood Town Homes. She also spent many years providing childcare and housekeeping services to several area families. She was very close to the families she worked for, especially the James (Blair) family.
Emily is survived by her brother, James P. Woodman and three generations of nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her beloved parakeets, Angel and Andy, whom are being cared for by her close friends, Sandy and Ken. Emily was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters, Ruth Campo and Phyllis Croften, sister-in-law, Ilene Woodman and four nephews, Roger Campo, Jamie Woodman, Jeffrey Woodman and Neil Croften.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, Emily's service will be open to immediate family and close friends only. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m., with a service to follow at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 1, 2021 at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care. Masks are required. Interment will be at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens, immediate family only. Donations to the Humane Society of South Central Michigan are suggested in lieu of flowers.
