Dr. Fred M. Kopelman passed away unexpectedly Friday, December 19, 2014 at Bronson Battle Creek Hospital.
He was born June 8, 1935 in Chicago, IL, where he graduated from Tuley High School in 1952. Somewhat unusual for the time, he was the only student to go on to college (Roosevelt University). In 1960 he earned his medical degree from Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine. Fred served his internship at Lakeview General Hospital, and remained an active staff member. In 1961 he started his Family Practice and continued until retiring in 2002. He loved the art of medicine and was grateful for the privilege of serving his patients with love and compassion. He was a member of national and state professional organizations and local hospitals, health organizations and boards.
For 53 years, Fred was an active member of Temple Beth El. Retirement allowed time to enjoy many good books and numerous rounds of golf with his buddies.
Fred was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, always putting his family first. He was the son of the late Bessie and Oscar Kopelman, and brother of the late Paul Kopelman.
He is survived by his beloved wife Sandra of 52 years. Also, left to cherish his memory are his sons Steven ( Clay Rakestraw ) and Mark ( Carla Mannino ), grandson Wyatt Kopelman, sisters-in-law Judy Kopelman and Beverly Hamner ( Don ), many family members, extended families, friends and patients.
A heartfelt service was officiated by Rabbi Ilana Baden. Interment took place December 21st at Memorial Park Cemetery, Battle Creek.
