Fred "Fritz" Tanner, 94 of Battle Creek entered heaven on Sunday, February 28, 2021. His family acknowledges the wonderful care provided at Glen Arbor Hospice Residence for Fred and his family.
Fred was born in Bellevue, Michigan the son of John and Katherine (Vogeli) Tanner. Both parents were immigrants from Switzerland.
Fred attended Bellevue High School and later following odd jobs became a master electrician, working at Morse Bros. Electric and Graham Electric, prior to being hired at Post Cereals, where he was employed for 34 years, retiring in 1984.
Surviving are Freida, his wife of 75 years; son, Harley (Sally) Tanner; daughter, Susan Kay Cleveland; three grandchildren, Stephanie Banwart, Christopher (Catherine) Cleveland, Michelle (Jorge) Cleveland Gonzalez; five great-grandchildren, Shae and Kode Banwart and Madeline, Justine and Danielle Cleveland. Fred was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Jack, John, Matt; sisters, Anna Van Zandt, Lena Ballschmieder, Rosie Sloan and son-in-law, Jim Cleveland.
Fred was a real handyman and before Father Time caught up with him, he had the best lawn and veggies garden on Jono Road. He enjoyed playing cards and board games with his family and friends. He and Frieda made many trips to Switzerland and also to Rome, Paris and the Black Forest of Germany. They took many tour bus trips, Alaskan Cruise and trips to Canada, Boston, Nashville; You name it! They also enjoyed wintering for many years in Avon Park, Florida.
Friends will be received 10:00 â 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, where funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 4, 2021. Committal and interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
