Frederick B. Deyoung

Frederick B. “Fred” DeYoung, age 90, of Gull Lake died Tuesday morning, February 19, 2013 at the Battle Creek VA Medical Center. He was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan on November 18, 1922 the son of Nicholas and Marion (Salesbury) DeYoung and graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School. Fred served his country as a member of the United States Army Air Corps during WWII. In 1982, he retired as a chemist at Hercules Incorporated after more than 36 years of faithful service.
Fred is survived by his son, Phillip (Susan) DeYoung of Delton; 4 grandchildren, Christopher (Angela) DeYoung, Kimberley (Tom) Hardy, Sallie Smith and Peggy Smith; a brother, Woodrow DeYoung and a sister, Nina Byrd. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Violet (Imig) DeYoung whom he married on June 24, 1945; his second wife, Donna Yvonne (Tosco) DeYoung whom he married on January 3, 1972; a daughter, Connie Smith; a son, Douglas DeYoung and a sister, Margaret DeYoung.
Fred served on the Gull Lake rescue squad and the Wildwood Park Association. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing and spending time with his friends and family.
At the request of the family a memorial visitation will be held 2:00 to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, February 24, 2013 at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Richland Chapel 9170 East D. Avenue (M-89) Richland, MI 49083. Interment will be held privately at Prairie Home Cemetery, Richland. In lieu of flowers, please consider making donations to the ALS Association.
