Frederick Lee "Fred" Hayes

Frederick Lee "Fred" Hayes, age 71, of Battle Creek passed away, Sunday, April 1, 2018. He was born in Albion, Michigan on September 17, 1946, the son of Frederick W. and Margaret (Curtis) Hayes. He graduated from Battle Creek Central High School, and faithfully served his country as a member of the United States Navy. Fred worked for many years with his family, who owned and operated Qualtek Inc. in Marshall. Fred was an active member of the First Congregational Church of Battle Creek where he enjoyed singing in the choir.

Fred is survived by his children, Tim (Marianne) Hayes of Glenview, IL and Katie (Chris) Richardson of Kalamazoo; four grandchildren Benjamin & Sophia Hayes, Brandon & Jacob Richardson; his brothers & sister, Sid, Mike, Robin (Cindy) Hayes and Peggy Milhoan; and several nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his special friend, Terry Smith.

The family will receive friends 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, April 5th at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Battle Creek. A private family service will be held at a later date.
