Frederick J. Shouldice, age 91, of Battle Creek passed away peacefully on Monday morning, April 19, 2021. He was born June 3, 1929 in Battle Creek, Michigan to Ward A. and Mildred H. (Heyser) Shouldice. Fred grew up in Battle Creek and was a 1947 graduate of Battle Creek Central High School. He received certification from an International Correspondence School in Heating, Ventilation, Plumbing, Sheet metal Design and Pattern Drafting. In 1986, after 47 years, Fred retired as the vice-president/co-owner/operator of Shouldice Brothers Sheet Metal Company, a five generation family business.
Fred was preceded in death by his first wife, Verne Dolores (Shepard) Shouldice. Fred married Jo-Anne (Bryant) Boston on July 21, 1984. He is survived by his wife, Jo-Anne; daughters, Linda (Michael) Walters of Augusta, Virginia (Michael) Rogers; two sons, Frederick J. Shouldice, Jr. and Thomas J. (Donna) Shouldice; son-in-law, Clifford House of Florida; two stepdaughters, Kathy (Steve) Filippelli of Florida and Kristi Miller of Battle Creek; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren & great-great grandchildren. Fred was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Rebecca House; and a brother, James A. "Jim" Shouldice.
Fred was a member of the First Congregational Church, a member and former treasurer of the Lakeview Kiwanis Club, a former member of the sheet metals workers union; the Athens Masonic Lodge #220, a member of the Shrine Club and a former Mini-T driver. Fred was a member of the Battle Creek Central Swim Team and a member of the Jr. National Swimming Championship team in the mid 1940's. After he retired Fred built his home, a boat, a model airplane and enjoyed any mechanical project or challenge. He was a licensed pilot and he owned and flew a 1972 Cessna airplane and several power boats. Fred also enjoyed playing golf and tennis.
