Glicerio B. Lopez, M.D., 72, of Battle Creek died at Bronson Battle Creek on Saturday, January 9, 2016.
Dr. Lopez was born December 21, 1943 in Cabuyao, Laguna, Philippines to Nicanor and Maria (Baterina) Lopez. He grew up in the Philippines and came to the United States at the age of 22. While in the US, he became known as "Jerry" to his many friends. From 1981 until retiring in 2014, Dr. Lopez practiced as an Internist at Associated Medical Group (now known as Borgess Internal Medicine) in Battle Creek with his partner Dr. Montie Gould, M.D.
Jerry married his sweetheart Pauline "Polly" Navarro on June 2, 1968 in Modesto, California. Surviving are his loving wife, Polly; two sons, Nick (Elizabeth) Lopez of Chicago, IL, and Santiago (Alice) Lopez of Jackson, MI; five grandchildren, Zander, Landon, Mariah, Carter and Samuel; three sisters, Delia Ismael, Sally (Rudy) Arzadon, and Juanita Lopez; and a brother, Jose (Cecilia) Lopez.
Jerry's passion was spending time with his five grandchildren. He enjoyed traveling and flower gardening with Polly. He volunteered on three medical mission teams that helped serve impoverished areas in his native Philippines. Jerry was a member of the American Medical Association and the Michigan State Medical Society. He will be remembered as a caring physician, loving grandfather, devoted father and a precious husband.
The family will receive friends from 11am-1pm and 6-8pm on Friday and 10-11am on Saturday at the Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home. Funeral services will be officiated by Pastor Lyle Dye at 11am Saturday, January 16, 2016 at the funeral home. Interment will follow at the Morgan Cemetery in Battle Creek.
