Harriet L. Martin

Harriet L. Martin, age, 90, of Battle Creek died after a short illness on Friday evening, March 16, 2018 at the Heartland Health Care Center of Battle Creek. She was born in Marshall, Michigan on May 10, 1927, the loving daughter of John E. and Fay M. (Carpenter) Reick, and graduated with the Battle Creek Lakeview High School Class of 1945. Harriet was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, who dedicated her life to raising her family. She briefly worked at Westin Biscuit Company.

Harriet married the "Love of Her Life", Clifford L. Martin in Battle Creek on October 6, 1946; he survives. She is also survived by her daughters, Sharon (Phil) Madarasz of Grand Blanc, MI, Linda (John) Gaskill of Indianapolis, IN, and Gay Anne Martin of Battle Creek; seven grandchildren, Chad Crane, Ryan Crane, Leigh (Scott) LaForest, Steve (Jenny) Madarasz, Jason Wood, Brittney (Jasen) Grant, and Tara Wood; fifteen great-grandchildren; and several cousins, nieces & nephews. Harriet was preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters, Margaret Gibson and Carolyn Barker.

An avid Detroit Tigers fan, Harriet also enjoyed going to the Casino to play Keno, going out to eat, baking, traveling, dancing, and listening to music, especially "Big Band". She also loved spending time with her family and her grand-cat, "Bailey".

A memorial service to celebrate Harriet's life will be held 12:30 p.m., Thursday, May 10, 2018 at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Battle Creek where the family will gather from 12:00 noon until the time of the service at 12:30 p.m. Entombment will follow at Fort Custer National Cemetery. Memorials directed to the American Heart Association and/or the American Cancer Society would be appreciated.
