Hattie "Hat" Lewis

Hattie L. “Hat” Lewis, 94, of Battle Creek, died December 14, 2023.  Hat was born August 21, 1929 in Fisk, MO to Andrew and Mary (Rains) Parris.  She graduated from Battle Creek Central High School and went on to work at Clark Equipment.  Hat then worked as a lab technician in food Science at the Kellogg Company when Special K was first produced.  Hat then started working at Cricket Publishing in 1962 and worked for 20 years, retiring in 1982. 

Hat was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church for many years.  She was also a member of the Riverside Country Club and Lakeview Lioness Club.  Hat enjoyed reading, bingo, needlework, traveling and spending winters in California, Arizona and Florida. 

Hat is survived by her three children, Nancy (Lloyd) Lack, Jeff Lewis and Steve (Tricia) Lewis; grandchildren, Collin (Nicole) Dawes, Matt Dawes, Julie (John Huetter) Dawes, Sarah Lewis, Adam (Krista) Lewis, Courtney (Scott) Allen and Katelyn (Alex) Barton; 12 great-grandchildren and a sister, Eileen Thoe. 

Hat married Fred Lewis on September 4, 1948, who sadly preceded her in death in 2013.  She is also preceded in death by three brothers, Harley, Ansel and Ray Parris, two sisters, Edith Gehrman and Lola “Grace” Leedy and a daughter-in-law, Sharon Lewis.

Funeral services to celebrate Hat’s life will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 6, 2024 at the Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care.  Interment will follow at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service, starting at 10:00 a.m.  A livestream of Hat's service can be viewed at the following link: https://vimeo.com/event/3984237
