Hilde Hammer, age 86, of Battle Creek, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Friday morning, December 7, 2018. She was born in Oldenburg, Germany on July 21, 1932 and came to the United States on her own at the age of 19, living in Battle Creek for more than 56 years. Hilde dedicated everything she had to raising and blessing her family, and later in life worked at Hudson's, where she was recognized as an "Employee of the Year".
Hilde married the "Love of Her Life", John E. Hammer in Salt Lake City, Utah on September 27, 1963; he sadly preceded her in death on October 9, 2004. She is survived by her daughters, Shereen Stoltz, Barbara (Matthew) Wasden, Karen Hammer, and Wendy (Scott) Lewis; her sons, James (Cindy) Hammer, John K. (Darla) Hammer, and Michael J. Hammer; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Hilde was also sadly preceded in death by her son, Erin J. Hammer on July 21, 2005.
Hilde was an amazing Matriarch with an incredible love for serving her family and others. She was an active member and faithfully served for more than 56 years at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Battle Creek. Hilde enjoyed the fine arts, painting, ceramics, reading, and loved to dance, especially with her favorite partner, John.
A memorial service to celebrate Hilde's life will be held 1:00 p.m., Friday, December 14th at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1312 Capital Ave. SW, Battle Creek. Hilde will be interred privately at Fort Custer National Cemetery. Memorials directed to the Humane Society of South Central Michigan, would be appreciated.
