Irene Evelyn Perrotta-Mandac, 90, of Battle Creek for the last 8 years died at Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice Care Residence on Monday, June 23, 2014.
Irene was born August 2, 1923 to Joseph and Clara (Monks) Gibbons in Bermuda, where her parents stopped to find jobs while migrating from England and then to the United States. She briefly lived in Ridgewood, NJ and was reared in Totowa, NJ, where she attended Passaic Valley High School. She lived in West Paterson and Wayne, NJ until 1984 when her husband, Albert, retired and they moved to Meza, AZ.
Irene Evelyn Gibbons married Albert Nicholas Perrotta on January 28, 1942 in Totowa Boro, NJ. Sadly Irene was preceded in death by Albert her husband on October 29, 1991. Surviving are two daughters, Irene E. Baker of Apache Junction, AZ and Karen A. (Thom) Grohalski of Battle Creek, MI; 15 grandchildren, 14.5 great-grandchildren and one great great-grandson. In addition to her husband, Irene was also preceded in death by a son, Albert Nicholas Perrotta, Jr.; a daughter, Judith Claire Talerico; a brother, Kenneth Gibbons and a sister, Jean Van Dam.
Irene was a member of St. George Catholic Church in Apache Junction, AZ. She loved being a wife and mother to her family and was gifted at baking, doing crafts and sewing; and she really loved to dance.
Friends will be received 9 :00 a.m. â 10:00 a.m. at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home, where Fr. John Fleckenstein will officiate a memorial service for Irene 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 2, 2014. Inurnment will be held in Arizona at a later date.
