Jack L. Roy

Jack L. Roy, 85, of Battle Creek passed away peacefully at home on December 18, 2023.  He was born in Battle Creek on April 6, 1938, the son of Walter and Audrey (Drake) Roy. Jack graduated from Battle Creek Central High School in 1956. He worked as a Rural Carrier at the Battle Creek Post Office for 37 years. 

Jack was married to Betty (Adams) Roy on September 27, 1958 and had over 30 happy years in retirement together, traveling as snow birds to Gulf Shores Alabama.  They both enjoyed watching their grandkids grow up, many who lived on the same road. Jack was a faithful member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church. 

Jack is survived by his children, Debbie (John) Taylor, Denise (Tom) Mackie, Brian (Kim) Roy, Kevin Roy and Jeff (Nicole) Roy, 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren who brought him great joy; a sister, Mary Ellen Wilkey; a brother-in-law, Richard Adams and sister-in-law, Jane (Marvin) Piper. 

Jack was also preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Nancy Lehman; and brother Jim Roy. 

Jack was an avid sports fan and loved Michigan sports teams, especially University of Michigan. He was known for his loud sports commentary from his lazy boy and his U of M fashion. 

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30 a.m., Thursday, December 21, 2023 at St. Joseph Catholic Church.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the Mass, starting at 9:30 a.m.  Entombment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Battle Creek St. Joseph Church or to Heartland Hospice.  A special thank you to Heartland Hospice.  Arrangements by Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Battle Creek.
