James Jefferson “Jeff” Dotson, 62, of Battle Creek and formerly of Athens, MI died peacefully on Saturday, March 28, 2025, at Bronson Battle Creek Hospital.
Jeff was born May 11, 1962, in Dayton, Tennessee to Clyde William “Billy” and Neva Ruth “Jo” (Newman) Dotson, Sr. He grew up in Dayton, Tennessee. Jeff was self-employed and specialized in roofing and logging.
Surviving are his son, Jason Dotson; grandson, Axel James Dotson; brothers, Clyde (Patricia) Dotson, Jr., Bobby (Moran) Dotson; sisters, Marilyn Payne, Tressia (Rick Seelenbinder) Lockhart, Evelyn (Anthony) McAllister; several cousins, nieces, nephews and their families. Jeff was preceded in death by his mother, Neva Ruth “Jo” Burnham and father, Clyde William “Billy” Dotson, Sr.
Jeff was storyteller and jokester. He loved his grandson, Axel and spending time together. Jeff was the father of fatherless children. His house in Athens was always open for children to visit and get their spirits lifted. He showed his love to everyone and was very generous to those in need. He also loved his dogs, Leo and Leo, Jr.
Graveside services will be held at Brown Cemetery near Dayton, Tennessee in Rhea County on Wednesday, April 2, 2025; where Jeff will be laid to rest.
