James G. "Jim" McLaughlin Jr. 87, of Battle Creek died unexpectedly Friday, January 30, 2015 at Bronson Battle Creek. Jim was born September 20, 1927 in Port Huron, the son of James Sr. and Georgia (McCarthy) McLaughlin and was a 1945 graduate of St. Philip High School. During World War II, Jim served with the US Army Air Forces. On May 20, 1950, Jim was united in marriage to Nancy M. Hansen in Battle Creek; she preceded him in death in 2007.
Jim is survived by two daughters, Mary K. Pahl, Lynne M. Newell both of Battle Creek; a son, Joseph P. (Gloria) McLaughlin of Burlington; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Jim was a Battle Creek Policeman working with the department for 33 years and retiring as a Lieutenant in 1986. Jim attended the F.B.I Academy, was awarded a Sharp Shooter's Certificate and also served as acting Captain at one time.
Jim was a member of F.O.P, American Legion and Eagles Lodge. He loved fishing and camping in the U.P and Canada and spending time with his family.
Visitation is planned for 2-4 & 6-8 Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home. A funeral service is planned at 1:00 P.M., Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at the funeral home with Rev. James S. Codde, Chaplain officiating. Jim's interment will be next to his wife and parents at Memorial Park Cemetery.
