Jean K. Raley, age 93, of Battle Creek passed away peacefully on Sunday evening, January 10, 2016 at Trudy's Home in Battle Creek. She was born in Battle Creek on March 30, 1922, the loving daughter of Paul and LuLu (Vincent) Haller and graduated from Battle Creek Central High School with the Class of 1940. Over the years, Jean worked for the Michigan Bell Telephone Company, Security National Bank and Family & Children Services.
Jean married F. Porter Raley on February 8, 1942; he sadly preceded her in death on July 14, 2000. She was also sadly preceded in death by her daughter, Robin Gifford in August 2012, and her son, Michael P. Raley in November 2012; her brother, Paul J. Haller, and her sister-in-law, Gerry Haller. Jean is survived by her daughter, Linda (Robert) Raley-Stolz of Battle Creek; a son-in-law, Michael Gifford; 5 grandchildren, Lisa (Dan) McGill, Katie Sevigny, Michael Gifford, Adam Stolz and David Stolz, and 9 great-grandchildren.
Jean was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church, Battle Creek and was active for many years with the Sunrise Circle, the United Methodist Women, the Endowment Committee and the church's soup kitchen. She also gave of her time and love serving with the Salvation Army and was a member of the Institute for Learning in Retirement at KCC. Jean enjoyed traveling, reading, playing Bridge and spending time with her family & friends.
A memorial service to celebrate Jean's life will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 29, 2016 at the First United Methodist Church of Battle Creek with a visitation and a light luncheon to follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider making donations to the First United Methodist Church 111 E. Michigan Ave. Battle Creek, MI 49014.
