James F. “Jimmy C.” Collins, 58, of Bellevue and formerly of Battle Creek went to be with his Lord & Savior on Friday evening, March 1, 2013 at the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor. He was born in Battle Creek on December 5, 1954 the son of James A. and Cornelia L. (Vandagriff) Collins Jr. Jim started in radio at a small town Christian station in Charlotte and a couple of stations in Battle Creek. He then joined the staff at WIN 98.5 and started hosting Hymntime Country Style. Every Sunday morning it was Jimmy's voice that coined the phrase Hymntime Country Style'on WIN 98.5! He was also the administrator of “”You know you’re from Battle Creek when…….” website.
Jim married the “Love of His Life”, Terry L. (English) Collins at the Family Altar Church in Battle Creek on July 12, 1975; she survives. He is also survived by his three children, James (Meganne) Collins II. Of Battle Creek, Ervan (Erica) Collins of Battle Creek and Terry Collins II. Of Bellevue; six grandchildren, James III., Claire, Calissa, Damien, Landen and Brayden Collins; 2 sisters, Linda (Jeff) Reynolds, Cathy Collins and Jake & Daisy, “the pugs who rule the world". Jim is further survived by a very large group of extended family and good friends.
A very loving and Godly man, Jim enjoyed reading his bible daily and loved spending time with his family. Jim served as a firefighter and EMT with Emmett Township for many years. He also coached Bellevue Rocket football and announced the Bellevue High School Varsity Football games.
A memorial visitation will be held 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 8, 2013 at the First Wes Church of Battle Creek, 14425 S. Helmer Road where a memorial service to celebrate Jimmy C.’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday. In lieu of flowers, please consider making donations to the family or the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation. Arrangements are being made by the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home.
