Joanne Sessions, 87, of Battle Creek, died peacefully at home after a short illness on June 6, 2024. She was surrounded by her daughters.
Joanne was born on October 20, 1936, in Battle Creek, to Edna and Ernest Gothberg. Joanne was a 1954 graduate of Battle Creek Central High School and married her high school sweetheart, Joe Sessions, that year. She worked various secretarial jobs, working the longest for the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, where she made many friends. She enjoyed reading and kept notebooks listing the books she read, along with her ratings. She enjoyed quilting and her quilts grace many beds and walls. Joanne was an avid gardener and eventually studied and became a Master Gardener. Her flower and vegetable gardens at her home were her pride and joy. Her special word was “lemons”. She loved being at her grandchildren's and great-grandchildren’s events. Joanne will be remembered for her artistic and crafty abilities, her quilts, and her humor.
She is survived by her daughters Dawn Daw of Anaheim, CA; Lori (Paul) Chapman, of Holland, Michigan; and Dana Sessions, of Desert Hot Springs, CA; granddaughters Mallory (Adam) Smith, Taylor (Josh) Sundell, and Bailey Chapman; and great grandchildren Henry and Charlie Smith, and Breckyn, Braylee, and Braxton Sundell, and niece Melissa (Dave) Schroder. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Joseph Sessions; her sister, Barb Barlond; and her parents, Edna Gotherberg Sharp and Ernest Gothberg, and stepfather, Albert Sharp.
