John Arthur Pile, Sr., 73 of Battle Creek, died peacefully Thursday, April 8, 2021, at MediLodge in East Lansing, Michigan.
John was born April 19, 1947 in Detroit, Michigan the son of Arthur Leslie and Vera Cecilia Ethel Allmond. John grew up in Eckford Twp. and was a 1966 graduate of Homer High School. After high school, John honorably served his country in the U.S. Army Armored Division, serving in Vietnam and received a Silver Star and Vietnam Service Medal. John was employed for 34 years at Franklin Iron Metal, retiring as a longtime Yard Foreman. He was also well known for his service as a Deputy on the Calhoun County Sheriff Department Marine Division. He cruised the area lakes keeping them safe for boaters and residents; and helping countless boaters and swimmers in distress.
John Arthur Pile married the love of his life, Pamela F. Easlick on July 12, 1968 at East Eckford Community Church. Surviving are Pam, his wife of 52 years; son, John Arthur (Paula) Pile, Jr. of Charlotte; daughter, Taryn (Troy) Goforth of Grand Haven; foster daughter, Annette Altena of Battle Creek; grandchildren, Zac (Carly) Woodworth, Jeramiah Woodworth, Mariah Jones, Josh Jones, Troy Goforth, Jr. USMC Lance Corporal, Chris (Laurice) Scramlin and Brian (Jessica) Scramlin; great-grandchildren Westley, Amelia, Jenness and Parker Scramlin, Gage, Brantly and Dakoda Jean Jones; brother and sister-in-laws, David Kinzie, Bruce and Lynn Easlick, Deb Darling; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. John was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Leslie Pile; mother, Vera Cecilia Ethel (Allmond) Pile-Tillson; stepfather, Raymond Tillson; sister, Diane Kinzie; son-in-law, Jeff Altena; brother-in-law, Brian Easlick and man's best friend and John's shadow, Buster.
John loved family gatherings and will be remembered by his family for preparing Christmas morning breakfast with Pam for as many as 20 family members for over 15 years. He loved camping, hunting, fishing, the outdoors, traveling with Pam in their motorhome, working on cars with his son, traveling to visit his daughter and was always willing to give advice and help others. His favorite camping spots were Mackinaw City, MI and Savannah, GA, but he enjoyed the UP and all of southeastern USA. John loved his family and will be remembered for his wonderful smile, his outgoing nature, socializing with friends and spending time in his garage. Our family would like to thank our Prayer Warrior Team who helped us endured this long journey.
Friends will be received 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 14, 2021at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care. A family only service to celebrate John's life will be held at Fort Custer National Cemetery 11:30 a.m. Thursday, April 15, 2021, where military honors will be bestowed by the U.S. Army Honor Guard and the all-volunteer Fort Custer National Cemetery Honor Guard.
