Kedwick R. Martin of Clayton, Georgia, died 29 of April, 2013, at age 92.
Ked was born in Alba, Michigan. His parents were original employees of the Upjohn Farm and long time members of the Richland Presbyterian Church. After graduating from Richland High School he attended Western Michigan College and then New York University, where he received a BS in Mechanical Engineering. He was a veteran of both World War II and the Korean War, attaining the rank of 1st Lieutenant by the time of his honorable discharge in 1952.
Ked's passions were his family, jazz music, world travel, and flying. Throughout his life Ked could be found on a golf course, and he carded a total of 3 holes-in-one and 1 amazing double eagle. Ked's professional career was focused in the pulp and paper industry, where he held several patents and was awarded the Harry J. Bettendorf award by the professional organization TAPPI. In retirement he took part in the IESC program of the U.S. State Department, offering his advanced technical knowledge of the pulp and paper industry to underdeveloped countries around the world.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty, of 64 years and brothers Glenn and Donald. Survivors include his children Susan Tsumura, Anne Pummell, and Glenn Martin, as well as five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Francis Martin and sister, Lois Martin.
Friends may call on Friday, May 10th, from 9 to 10 a.m. at Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home, Richland Chapel, 9170 East D Avenue. Interment will take place at Prairie Home Cemetery, Richland with Military Honors bestowed by the United States Army Honor Guard. The Memorial Service to celebrate Kedwick's life will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Richland, 8047 Church Street, at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Dr. Mark W. Jennings, officiating.
