Lillie Mae Nelson, age 92, of Battle Creek passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday morning, March 12, 2017. She was born in Slayden, Mississippi on March 29, 1924, the daughter of Irby and Cathleen (Lewellen) Pool. Lillie served as a Nurse Practitioner at the Battle Creek VA Hospital for 35+ years.
Lillie was preceded in death by her husband, Nathaniel Nelson on November 27, 1984. She is survived by her son, Jeff I. Nelson of Battle Creek; three grandchildren, Sherry Nelson of Covina, CA, SeDonna Young, ShiNina Nelson and step-grandson Terence Young all of Battle Creek; six great-grandchildren, Brian, Joshuwa, Aubrianna, Nyonna, Shane Jr. and Shayonna; one great-great grandchild, Variha; special brother, Willie (Bettie)Robertson Jr., special sister, Ann Pitts, and several nieces & nephews.
Lillie was a member of the Second Missionary Baptist Church for more than 70 years, and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She loved fishing, yard work, and spending time with her family.
The family will receive friends 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Sunday, March 19th at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Battle Creek. The family hour will be held 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Monday, March 20th at the Second Missionary Baptist 485 North Washington Ave., Battle Creek where the Homegoing Celebration will begin at 12:30 p.m. Interment will follow at Ft.
