Luz Maria Garcia, age 93, of Battle Creek, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, April 16, 2014 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Welda, Texas on December 13, 1920 to Marcelino and Andrea (Arguello) Bocanegra. She moved to Battle Creek in the early 1940's.
Shortly after moving to Battle Creek, Luz married Jose Cruz Garcia on May 5, 1942; he sadly preceded her in death on July 17, 1997. She was an awesome wife, mother, grandma, great-grandma, great-great grandma and sister. Luz loved spending time with her family and friends. She loved going to garage sales, listening to music and dancing. Luz was also known for her quick sense of humor which always made us smile.
Luz is survived by her children, Reno Garcia of Texas, Lupe (Keith) Shultz of Albion, Reyes Garcia of Battle Creek, Mary Leche of Battle Creek, Irene (Larry) Fox of Battle Creek, Gloria Garcia of Georgia, Juan Garcia of Battle Creek, Beatrice Rollins of Florida and Jose C. Garcia Jr. of Battle Creek; 30 grandchildren; 60 great-grandchildren; 19 great-great grandchildren; a brother, Cris Bocanegra of Bellevue, and a sister, Celia (Rudy) Frausto of California. She was also preceded in death by her daughters, Josie Bombard and Sylvia Garcia; her parents, Marcelino and Andrea Bocanegra; brothers, Jesus Bocanegra, Domingo Bocanegra, Marcelino Bocanegra Jr., and sisters, Juanita Guzman and Crus Gonzales.
The family will receive friends 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday, April 21, 2014 at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home where the Parish Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m., Monday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church, 61 N. 23rd Street, Battle Creek with Father Evelio Ramirez, celebrant.
