Marguerite C. Eagles

Marguerite Caroline (Stocker) Eagles, 85, of Battle Creek, died peacefully at home with her family at her side, on Tuesday, July 11, 2017.

She was born December 13, 1931 in Evanston, Illinois to Oscar and Anna Lydia (Bischoff) Stocker. She grew up in Battle Creek and was a 1950 graduate of Battle Creek Central High School. Marguerite earned her Bachelor's Degree in Education from Western Michigan University. She managed the Bookstore at W.M.U. during her education and then later taught 2nd grade at Springfield Elementary. She was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker.

Marguerite married Jack E. Eagles on June 1, 1957 at First Congregational Church. Surviving are her husband and best friend, Jack; three children, Christy Joy (Dan) Nowak of Comstock Park, MI, Melody Lee (Jim) Jankowski of Darien, IL, Tim Stocker (Dawn) Eagles of Unionville, CT; a sister, Heidi (Scott) Sherman of Vero Beach, FL; nine grandchildren, Nicole (Matthew) Kearney, Marco Eagles, Sandra Eagles, Megan Lawlor, Jacqueline Nowak, Andrew Nowak, Rachael Nowak, Tyler Jankowski, Kelly Jankowski and one great-granddaughter, Talula Kearney. Marguerite was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Jack E. Eagles, Jr.; a brother, Ralph Robert Stocker.

Marguerite was a member of the First Congregational Church, its Mary Daniels Circle and a volunteer at SNAP. She was a Troop leader for the Girl Scouts and a board member and vice president of the Glowing Embers Girl Scout Council. Marguerite volunteered thousands of hours to put Girl Scouting on the map in Battle Creek.

Marguerite was also a member of Tri-Sigma sorority and a member of the PEO Chapter AB. She enjoyed traveling, extensively throughout the world, tending to her rose gardens, and baking Swiss Christmas Cookies. Marguerite will be remembered as a loyal Detroit Tigers fan and always having a full cookie jar.

Marguerite's family will receive friends 5:00 – 8:00 pm Saturday at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care. Funeral services will be officiated by Rev. Thomas Ryberg at the First Congregational Church, 145 Capital Ave. Battle Creek, 3:00 p.m. Sunday, July 16, 2017. Interment will be held Monday at Memorial Park Cemetery.
