Mary Elizabeth (James) Peters of Richland, MI

Mary Elizabeth aka "Marybeth", age 69, died unexpectedly Saturday evening, March 7, 2020, at Bronson Methodist Hospital, Kalamazoo, MI.

Marybeth, the daughter of Albert and Edith Ellen (Haughey) James, was born in Freeport, New York on December 12, 1950, but spent time as a child in Wisconsin (10 years) and then Minnesota (5 years). Marybeth finally settled down to the area in 1967; graduating from Gull Lake High School in 1969. She was a Founding Member and Executive Administrative Assistant for Research and Education at the West Michigan Cancer Center of Kalamazoo for the past 26 years and a member of the International Association of Administrative Professionals organization. Marybeth attended Central Michigan University and graduated from Nazareth College, cum laude, with a BA in English and Biology. She was an advocator for greyhounds and volunteered with Second Chance for Greyhounds and Allies for Greyhounds. She was involved in the community and giving back as a member of the Gull Lake Community Volunteers group. When she wasn't busy volunteering, she enjoyed taking her dogs for long walks, weaving, sewing projects, reading books, and cooking for picnics, potlucks, neighbors, and visiting family and friends.

Marybeth is survived by her daughter, Leeann B. Peters of Richland; her son, Brian K. Peters of Kalamazoo; her sister, Ellen Solaric; two step-sisters, Stephanie Larsen and Christina Ellis; her brother, Jim James and two step-brothers, Terry Dolan and Patrick Dolan. Marybeth was preceded in death by her parents; her step-mom, Esther James and a brother, Bill James.

Due to the Health Crisis, the Memorial Service to celebrate Marybeth's life is on hold. A "potluck style" Celebration of Marybeth's life will be held immediately following the memorial service in the Richland Township Hall, 7401 North 32nd Street. Final interment will be in Ross Center Cemetery, Ross Township. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Marybeth's honor may be directed to the West Michigan Cancer Center, 200 North Park Avenue, Kalamazoo, MI 49007.
