Nancy Ann (Lindsey) Sims, 88, of Battle Creek, passed away Monday, December 16, 2024.
Nancy was born on March 6, 1936, in Battle Creek, the daughter of David L. and Grace M. (Jones) Lindsey. From then until the day she married John W. Sims, June 3, 1956, she lived with her family in a home on the corner of Cliff and Caine Streets in Post Addition. She attended Post School, Southeastern Junior High, and Battle Creek Central, graduating in 1954. While in high school, she worked as a co-op student at the W. K. Kellogg Foundation and began full-time employment as a secretary at the Foundation the day after her high school graduation. From 1961 until 1977 she was a stay-at-home mother. During this time, she served as a member and president of the Beadle Lake Elementary PTA and the Harper Creek PTA Council. She also served a four-year term on the Harper Creek Board of Education. In 1977, she returned to work at the Kellogg Foundation, where she was employed as a secretary, administrative assistant, assistant to the president, and manager, retiring in 1997. She is a member of the Foundation's 25-Year Club.
Nancy loved spending time with her friends and family, especially her grandchildren, and some of her happiest times were family holidays and family vacations at Disney World and Mackinac Island. She loved knitting, reading, working puzzles, shopping, and scrapbooking. She greatly enjoyed her weekly and monthly lunches and dinners with long-time friends and time spent with her husband, especially in Frankfort and the Leelanau Peninsula on Lake Michigan.
Nancy is survived by her husband of 68 years, John W. Sims, Sr.; a son, John W. Sims, Jr., of Battle Creek; a daughter, Sara A. (Shannon) Radgens, of Flushing, MI; three beloved grandchildren, granddaughter Zoe Grace (Drake Deitch) Sims of Battle Creek, and grandsons Gabriel Wesley Radgens and Tathan Thomas Radgens of Flushing, MI; one brother, David L. (Carolyn) Lindsey of Portland Oregon; and a niece, Emily Lindsey of Berkeley CA. She was preceded in death by her parents, many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
The family will receive friends 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Monday, December 30, 2024 at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Battle Creek where a Celebration of Nancy's Life will begin at 7:00 p.m., Monday.
