Patricia "Pat" Oshaben

Patricia "Pat" (Amis) Oshaben, age 93, of Battle Creek passed away on April 18, 2021 after a long illness. Pat was born on December 14, 1927 in Beaverdale, Pennsylvania. It was in Beaverdale, Pennsylvania where Pat was raised. She graduated from Beaverdale High School, Class of 1945 and went on to graduate from the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Johnstown, Pennsylvania and became a registered nurse.

Pat and Ed Oshaben married in 1950 and soon moved to Michigan to pursue their careers. During their 61 years of marriage, they raised and are survived by sons, Bruce (Jane) Oshaben, Dave (Pam) Oshaben, and daughter, Kathryn (Mike) Gallagher. Also surviving are grandsons, Chris (Ann) Gallagher and Kevin (Beth) Gallagher, Nate, Nick and Erik Oshaben; great-grandchildren, Madelyn, Jacob (Chris and Ann) and Joslyn, Evelyn and Liam (Kevin and Beth) Gallagher. Pat was preceded in death by her husband, Edward William Oshaben; her parents, Frank Amis and Catherine (Parks) Amis; and sisters, Theressa Stravinksy and Agnes Heverly.

Pat was a dedicated nurse and very proud of her profession, working at the Ann Arbor Veteran's Hospital and St. Joseph Mercy Hospital also in Ann Arbor. Pat and Ed moved back east again to Fishkill, NY for a few years but soon relocated to Clam Lake in Bellaire, MI where Pat worked at Meadow Brook Nursing Care Facility until her retirement.

Pat was a talented seamstress, knitter, quilter and avid reader. During her life she was always active and enjoyed gardening, canning, swimming and exercising. Her special passion was travelling with Ed in the United States and abroad. They cherished seeing friends and relatives during their many trips back to Pennsylvania for holidays, reunions and weddings.

In her retirement, Pat volunteered at the Baby Pantry at St. Anthony Church in Mancelona, MI and was a member of the Torch Area Quilters Guild.

Pat spent the last ten years of her life at The Reflections Memory Care in Battle Creek, MI. Pat and her family appreciated the kind and loving care that was provided by every single caregiver every single day during her residence. Pat's family also wishes to acknowledge the wonderful care and support received from the staff at Grace Hospice.

A private family Mass of Christian Burial has been celebrated at St. Joseph Catholic Church and Pat has been interred at Fort Custer National Cemetery.
