Patricia Louise Schafer

Patricia Louise Schafer, 95, of Battle Creek, MI died Tuesday, April 9, 2024. She spent her final days peaceful and surrounded by her family. She was born August 10, 1928 to Karl and Harriett Johnson.  

After she graduated, Patricia worked for the Battle Creek Enquirer for 3 years and Miller Jewelers for 28 years. On September 10, 1950 she married Robert O. Schafer and had 2 children, Craig and Cheryl. She was a caretaker to all and was the best at it.  Raising her kids and having grandkids was her highlight.

She loved working with her flowers outside, having garage sales with Cheryl, or visiting Craig in Chicago. She was always up for painting, anything, because she loved it so much. Going shopping always included a coke slush or ice cream! She never gave a birthday card she didn’t alter, or fully create. Sometimes she even gave it to the wrong person. She always made us laugh with her faces or her famous phrase “oh pigeon puke!”

Her 4 legged friend Sophie gave her so much joy and company these last few years. As soon as she got out of her wheelchair, Sophie jumped in it! She spoiled her a bit. Needless to say, her dog, and us, are a bit lost without her. 

She is survived by her son, Craig (Christy) Schafer; daughter, Cheryl (Dan) Ludwick; granddaughters, Melissa (Ryan) Murphy, Jennifer Marble, and four great-grandkids: Makenzie, Aubrey, Raegan Murphy and Jackson Marble.

We will celebrate her amazing life with visitation on Sunday, April 14 from 4:00-6:00 p.m., and funeral on Monday April 15, at 12:00 p.m. noon at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home, 105 Capital Ave NE, Battle Creek MI 49017.
