A loving wife, mother and grandmother, Patricia Ann Vanderpool, age 65, died December 15, 2022 at home with her family after a six and a half year battle with ovarian cancer.
Patricia, the daughter of Carl and Barbara O'Brien, was born in Ypsilanti, Michigan on July 9, 1957. At the age of 19, Pat married her high school sweetheart, Mark Vanderpool, and they have enjoyed a beautiful marriage of 46 years. She graduated with her Master's Degree from Western Michigan University, after which she began a long career as an educator in various capacities. Pat's true passion was fulfilled as the Director of Religious Education, first at St. Augustine Cathedral, and then at her home parish of St. Ann Catholic Church. She was devoted to helping the parish in numerous areas, and was instrumental in the development of the catholic school program at St. Ann's, that has transitioned to the current Light of Christ Academy.
Pat lived a pious life dedicated to God, her family, and her community. Hers was a joy-filled life of selflessness and servitude. She was known for her service, not only when she was called on, but whenever she recognized the opportunity for ministry and evangelization. She was always the first person to volunteer for a cause and never expected anything in return. Pat was caring and understanding, forgiving and patient, and always saw the good in people through loving eyes. Her presence invoked tranquility, and her infectious laugh would light up the room. To know her was to love her.
Pat is survived by her husband Mark, and their three sons, Zachary (Erica), Jacob (Tara), and Maxwell (Sasha Laykova), and by two beautiful grandchildren, Peter and Lucy, that were her pride and joy. She is also survived by her siblings Marti Barden (Bob-deceased), Suzi Christoffersen (Gary) and Michael O'Brien (Becky). She was preceded in death by her parents.
