Philip D. "Phil" Mcpherson

Philip D. "Phil" McPherson, age 94, of East Leroy, passed away Sunday morning, June 13, 2021 at Bronson Battle Creek. He was born in Barry County, Michigan on September 6, 1926. Phil faithfully served his country as a member of the United States Army and retired from Post Cereals in 1984.

Phil married the "Love of His Life", Dale "Irene" Horton in Bellevue, Michigan on October 26, 1945; she survives. He is also survived by his son, Philip Dale (Brenda) McPherson of Battle Creek; his grandchildren, Melissa McPherson, Jill (Scott) Wise, Melanie (John) DeKruyter, Jennifer (Chad) Porter, Scott (Mandy) Baird, Jon (Melanie) Baird, Christina Cushard, Sarah Monarca, Elizabeth Bell; and several great-grandchildren. Phil was preceded in death by two children, Kathleen E. Baird and David Russell McPherson; his parents; a brother, Hugh McPherson; and three sisters, Grace Weaver, Betty Polson, and Helen Reynolds.

A very kind & loving man, Phil was an active & dedicated member of Trinity United Methodist Church at the old 5-way light for many years, where he helped with the church grounds and taught Sunday School. He was an excellent stone mason and created many fireplaces in the area. Phil enjoyed fishing, time with his family and neighbors, traveling by car with Irene, fishing, pitching horseshoes, fishing, building and maintaining a home for Irene and fishing. He was a self taught musician who enjoyed playing and singing with the "Old Time Players" at retirement homes in the Area.

The family will receive friends 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Monday, June 21, 2021 at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Battle Creek where services to celebrate his life will be held 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 22, 2021 with Pastor John DeKruyter, officiating.
